I like anime/manga, I'm a fangirl, I like reading fanfiction and looking at fanart, but I am not into This should not be so surprising, but apparently, it is. Every single time I mention that I don't like/hate/abhor/wish-I-could-tear-it-up-into-tiny-pieces-and-flush-it-down-the-fucking-toilet (my level of dislike depends on my mood)
I always get a surprised "BUT WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!" in response.
Why? I have a number of reasons.
I'm straight.
Even though I can say that I find a lot of fellow females pretty/attractive/sexy, I'm really straight. For me to find a fictional male to be really attractive, he has to be straight. It's not because I hate homosexuals in general, but it's what I prefer. Being homosexual is partly because of preference too, right? And liking the pretty boys in (regardless of your own sexual orientation) is also a preference, yes? Well, I happen to prefer straight guys who don't look prettier than me and/or don't dress up like girls.
And for me to find a romance/pairing appealing, I have to be able to understand and/or relate to the relationship on some level. Something about it has to just click with me. (and
pairings rarely ever click with me at all, and I blame it all on my being straight.
The fanon pairings disgust me.
I squee about my favorite pairings a lot. I admit it. But watching fangirls squeeing over fanon pairings such as Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy, Squall Leonhart/Seifer Almasy, or Light Yagami/L just makes me cringe. Don't get me wrong, I like fanfiction and fanart. What I don't like is fanfiction/fanart that deviates too much from the characters' personalities and inclinations. These characters are not canon gay. For me, making too many changes to an existing character is an insult to both the character and his/her original creator. Making a canon-straight character gay is one of those changes that are just too much for me.
The fangirls scare me.
The crazier ones, anyway. fangirls tend to be obsessive, defensive, and out to find unwitting converts to their cause. They make me want to run away screaming sometimes.
And I don't like how they're all shocked to hear that I'm not fond of like I'm the one who isn't right in the hormones head.
I tried it on. It didn't fit.
There was a phase in my life where I liked A bit. Not to the point of openly obsessing over pairings (canon or fanon). It was back in the seventh grade, I think, and around early high school. It got old really fast. I don't remember exactly when I got sick of it; I just remember that I eventually decided that it just wasn't my thing.
A lot of the
anime/manga I see makes me want to gouge out my eyes.
I wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole. Oh sure, I watched/read Bronze: Zetsuai Since 1989 and liked it back in the day. If I go back to it now though, I'd probably barf after a few seconds.
When I see covers like the ones I posted in the above graphic, I get so annoyed and confused. They look like girly romance manga from afar. But then I realize these are guys on the cover. That just really messes with my brain.
---
Just to clear things up: I am not a homophobe. I quite enjoyed the pieces of homosexual literature that I was required to read for my English Literature and Japanese Literature classes. I have gay friends. I believe homophobes should be strung up by their own intestines and be pelted with BB guns for being narrow-minded asshats. There are just a lot of reasons for me to not like the genre, and they have nothing to do with my opinions on homosexuality as a whole.
Long story short: I'm just an anime/manga fangirl and gamer who happens to not like There's nothing so strange about that.

…yikes. I suggest not searching to see if male Shepard/Garrus Mass Effect STUFF exists, because you’ll find it.
[Edit: Censored another word that I don't want search engines to crawl, sorry. XD - El]
, dear. Of course Garrus x Male!Shep stuff exists. There’s fanart to go with it.
And there’s lots of Garrus x Wrex fanfics/fanart too. Now THAT is ultimately more disturbing than Garrus x Male!Shep.
True ’nuff on the first count. Though Garrus and Wrex are both sorta lizards so they’re at least closer related – like a human and an orangutan.
On second thought that’s not better at all, eww….
Eww indeed. I’ll just stick to my Garrus x Fem!Shep and the occasional Garrus x Tali, thanks.
I’m also completely ‘meh’ about THAT… I watched GundamWing for the robots, not the boys. I’m a freak, I guess.
Sorry Pai, but I had to edit out THAT WORD from your comment to prevent any search engines from crawling it. XD
Anyway, glad to know I’m not the only “freak” in the world!
