Square-Enix recently launched an in-app Triple Triad game, and so far it’s been a lot of fun!
I don’t recall enjoying or being any good at Triple Triad back when I was playing Final Fantasy VIII, but I’ve been doing pretty well on the mobile version so far. I guess all I needed was a little more practice.
Your AI opponents are also Final Fantasy characters, with most of them represented by their portrait art from the Dissidia series. This made me imagine Squall (or, more likely, Laguna) sitting the entire cast of Dissidia down for some serious Triple Triad lessons. But let’s not get sidetracked by this crazy fangirl’s silly ideas, shall we? :p
The game includes cards from the old Triple Triad deck, along with newer cards featuring characters from various Final Fantasy games. I have to admit, this made the game far more interesting to me, especially when the first new card I won from an opponent during the tutorial stage was Kain. <3
The game is free when you download the Final Fantasy Portal app, but you can pay real money to buy Gil, which in turn can be used to buy the crystals required to play each round.
