Throwback Thursday: Makati-Taft Food Tripping with Kaye

Back in June 2013, I met up with Kaye with the intention of eating lunch at Izakaya Kikufuji in Pasong Tamo and watching The Great Gatsby after, but the day turned into one big food trip instead.

Lunch at Izakaya Kikufuji pushed through as intended, even though we were a few people short than originally planned. Kikufuji serves set meals with free starters (usually a salad, a vegetable/seaweed dish, and spicy tuna) and dessert (we chose to have their iced coffee) at lunch time, and I recommended that Kaye try the Katsu Ni while I tried their Korokke.

Their spicy tuna is the best starter dish ever.

And this is still the most delicious iced coffee I’ve ever tasted.

Spotted this on our way out of Kikufuji. Beer, anyone?

After lunch, we checked the showtimes for The Great Gatsby, but the only tickets available were for the evening screenings, and neither of us could stay that long. We decided to explore Glorietta a bit, and we found Cupcakes by Sonja in Glorietta 2. I decided to get my old favorite, the Peppermint Patty cupcake, and Kaye tried their Strawberry Cheesecake cupcake.

Kaye was meeting a friend of hers in Taft, and I had nothing better to do so I tagged along. She took me to a place she had been recommending to me the week before our food trip – Holly’s Coffee.

I got so excited about trying their specialty drinks (“Hollyccinos”) that I completely forgot I already had a lot of coffee for breakfast and lunch. And Kaye forgot she had a lot more. Oops.

Thankfully neither of us wound up palpitating or anything over the caffeine overload…although we may have gained a pound or ten in one go. Not sure all our wandering around and walking was enough to burn all that good food off!
