Kingdom is based on a manga series of the same name by Yasuhisa Hara. It’s a historical epic centered around Xin, a slave aspiring to become a great general in the state of Qin. Xin joins forces with Ying Zheng, the Qin king, who shares his ambition of unifying China. The story follows Xin’s journey as he strives to become a remarkable military commander capable of toppling the Seven Warring States.

A much-awaited season

Many fans have been anticipating Kingdom season 5 because it’s been over a year since the fourth season aired on NHK General in April 2022. Crunchyroll aired the anime concurrently with its Japanese broadcast.

The first season first aired way back in 2012, quickly followed by a second season in 2013. For North American audiences, it aired through Funimation‘s streaming platform concurrently and was released in DVD format in 2016.

In April 2020, the third season had to go on hiatus after airing only four episodes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It resumed airing in April 2021, starting from the beginning.
